The Rode NT1-A studio condenser microphone.

The Rode Broadcaster has been an “on-boom” favorite at Studio1A for some time.

While the Rode Broadcaster (or NTB) is designed as a broadcast microphone, the NT1-A is a classically inspired studio recording piece. The NT1-A is an update to the Rode NT1, and both are a mainstay of popular condensers that won’t break the bank.

There are more large diaphragm studio condensers than ever on the market. I like the Rode name because of their consistent attention to quality control. When I open a Rode box, I know it will be a quality piece. As we recorded this piece, the NT1-A street price is $229. That’s a true bargain for a mic of this caliber.

While the mic is top notch, I would have liked to seen a custom threaded shock mount. Included with the NT1-A is a clamp-on type shock mount (which gets the job done), a few extra elastic pieces for the mount, a leatherette zipper type carry case and the manual. No nonsense.
